Windows 7 to launch on Oct 22

Microsoft has officially said that its next operating system -- Windows 7 will be available for general public from Oct. 22. Earlier, the company had said that Windows 7 can be expected somewhere around holidays.

Brandon LeBlanc, Windows communications manager for The Windows Team Blog, posted details about the general availability of Windows 7. On May 5, Windows 7 release candidate was available for public download.

The folks using Windows XP or Vista will be provided an upgrade option under Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program. Under this program, the retails and OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) will be offering a special deal (read it as upgrade price) for the folks purchasing a 'qualifying PC' i.e. Windows 7 compatible/ready PCs.

Microsoft will reveal more details about Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program in the coming days.
